FAQ
What is Life Coaching?
Life Coaching is a process in which the coach partners with the client to define and achieve their goals, tap into their strengths and realize their potential. It is creative, focused on your priorities and tailored to what works for you to get the results that you want.
What does a Coaching session look like?
A typical coaching session with me lasts 50-60 minutes. They are held online using zoom or other video calling platform, or in person in Duncan, BC. The work focuses on the topics that you have identified as important. Every session has a measurable goal that you have either brought to the session or that we work together to define.
What is the difference between coaching and counselling?
Coaching is not therapy. It is focused on moving forward to achieve concrete results by improving access to your strengths and resources and working through any barriers you may have to doing so. Counseling tends to look to the past to heal the origins of issues that are impacting your quality of life. While there may be some overlap – for example in how working through barriers to achieving your goals may lead to improvements in other areas of your life – the ethics of my coaching practice clearly distinguish between the intentions of the healing work of counseling, and the creative and forward looking work of coaching. It can happen that there is a barrier to your achieving important goals that lies in the realm of counselling. In that case, we would arrive at an understanding regarding how you would like to approach it and I could provide a referral if needed.
What is the difference between a consultant and a coach?
A consultant is an expert in a specific field qualified to provide advice on that topic. A coach does not provide advice because you are the expert on your life. The work we do arises from what you need in order to get from where you are now, to where you wish to be.
Do you work remotely?
Yes. Remote sessions are an efficient and effective way to work together that also eliminates the environmental impact and time cost of travel to meet in person. I use Zoom, or any of the many other video call options available.
What do you charge?
Coaching sessions are $110 and the Men Being with Emotions groups are $50. I offer PWYC (pay what you can) and trade options with a focus on supporting marginalized folks, activists, and students. Your payment of the regular rate helps me to offer supportive rates to others. Email me if you’d like to know more about these options. If you feel drawn to this, don’t let the money be the not to. Talk to me.
Where are you located?
I am located in Duncan BC – unceded territory of the Quw’utsun people. I meet clients in person as well as work remotely with clients all over the world.
